Awwwwww.... Neuschwanstein or better known to those of us in America as the Disneyland Castle. We spent Easter Sunday here with about 1 million other tourist but the weather was good and the view was great. That morning we got up early and drove down to Fussen from Muchin. Although we got there around 9 am there was already a line forming and we had to wait until 10:20 to start our tour. Neuschwanstein is located on top of a hill and can only be reached by bus, horse drawn carriage, or walking(more like a hike). We choose to take the bus to save both some money and our energy.
At the top of the hill where the bus drops you off there is a path that leads to Mary's Bridge which has been there longer then the castle itself. It was made by Maximilian(Ludwig's father) and is located on the south side of the castle over Pöllat Gorge. On the bridge you have one of the most beautiful views of the castle. Most people choose to bypass this detour and head straight to the castle. Huge mistake if you ask me! The walk to the bridge isn't that far from the drop off point and you can't get a better view of the castle anywhere else. Having said that after we arrived at the view point we found out that Neuschwanstein was under repair, so we ended up with a bunch of great pictures of scaffolding. Most of our trip to Germany seemed to take place during major renovations which was slighly disappointing but I was in GERMANY so I can't complain
