hello...

I really want a new camera. One of those fancy ones that Sara has. I want to be able to look back on my pictures and be blown away by what the lens has captured. Yet I'm hesitant to buy one because I've never had any formal training in photography. I'm horrible about taking photos in the wrong lighting, wrong angle, wrong everything. Its hard for me to justify spending upwards of a thousand dollars on something I can't use properly.

Awhile ago there was a class being taught at College of the Redwoods that promised to teach you the basic of photography and how to use your camera. As usual I was a day late and a camera short of being able to take it. I've promised myself that if I can manage to pack around my camera for the next couple of months or so and actually use it that I'll let myself invest in a nicer one and maybe a photo class or two. In the mean time I will torture all of you with random shots of our morning walks.

Duck Tape

I've been spending a lot of time with my 14 year old niece lately. I love having her around but being childless I'm really not sure what to do with someone her age. Most of the time we end up taking her out to eat because honestly I have no clue what a 14 year old likes to do but I know I like to eat :-) This past weekend she gave me a present. It was a rose made out of duck tape and I was so intrigued that we head to Ace and purchased 30 dollars with of duck tape so that I could make my own

Trindad

Its February and we've been blessed with some beautiful and very weird weather. Almost three complete weeks of sunshine followed by wind, rain, hail, and a slight dusting of snow in the hills. Its winter and we've been experiencing better weather then all of June, July, and August combined. This morning we decided that we'd head up to Trinidad and hike The Head. Its a one mile loop with the majority of that being up hill. It kicks my butt every time.

Richardson Grove

There was a small demonstration at Cal Tran’s main headquarters in Eureka yesterday to protest the widening of hwy 101 at Richardson Grove. The road is too narrow for larger trucks to travel on. There is hope that once the road is widened that Humboldt County will come into the 21st century. The 1.1 miles that needs to be reconfigured will up root a total of 54 trees.
Now I know that 54 trees doesn’t seem like a lot when Companies like Green Diamond are cutting down hundreds each day but if you’ve ever traveled through Richardson Grove you know that you’re driving through something special. There are moments when I’ve honestly lost my breath at the sheer beauty of it. I’m in the protesters corner on this one.

Interesting

This is probably one of the most interesting pieces of information that I've seen in the last few months. The above chart is from the insurance carrier All State - It shows that there is a direct link between your zodiac sign and how well you drive. Looks like I'm middle of the road while Brian is numbero uno!

Viva Las Vegas!

We try and take a major vacation twice a year. This year we decided that our pocket books are rather empty and a few goals have been pushed to the back burner because of all our traveling. So this year we decided to stay closer to home and are attempting to save some cash. I say attempting because I really can't see a difference when it comes down too it. The only thing I've noticed is that I've been more depressed. I look forward to our trips and not spending my winters laying on a deserted beach with a cocktail in hand has really started to get to me. Hence the title of this post. We are off to Las Vegas for a little fun and sun. I found an amazing price out of Santa Rosa and after some discussion we decided that we can't pass it up. Woohoo!
