The weekend

I think Brian has incredible luck with his camera and I wish it would rub off when he plays the lotto. After having a slight panic attack over the fact that he went for a dip with it in his pocket we got a lucky break when it came back to life on his trip to San Ramon. The lens is still a little foggy but we’re hoping with some time the moisture will eventually evaporate.

We spent Friday night doing the Make a Wish Foundation Poker Run. We took Brian’s 60 bug and did the 30 mile trek with some friends of ours. We both drew crappy hands and froze our butts off but it was nice to contribute to a good cause. Saturday was spent running errands and checking out Cruz in Eureka on the boardwalk. They had a chicken wing cook off which smelled fabulous and of course neither of us could come up with 5 dollars cash between the two of us to have some. I’ll have to keep that in mind for next year and raid the quarter jar before we go. Who carries cash on them now days anyway? Silly!

Saturday night we drove out to Humboldt Hill to check out our friend’s new house and boy am I jealous. There just something about being a homeowner that is calling my name but when I actually sit down and way the pro’s and con’s I tend to find myself wanting to travel away more then I want to own a home. I’ll just have to wait until I’m retired to stay home.

Sunday was spent relaxing and enjoying the rain

Nobody puts baby in the corner

Rest in Peace Mr Swayze

I must say that I'm completely heartbroken over this like I actually knew the guy. I think it’s funny how the death of someone you’ve never met can affect you almost to the extent of losing someone you actually love. The whole situation makes me wish that I had never thrown away my dirty dancing poster back in grade school. It’s going to be Dirty Dancing, Red Dawn, Ghost, Point Break, The Outsiders, and Roadhouse marathon all week at our house. Sorry Brian

Labor Day Weekend

Brian and I drove up to the lake for Labor Day weekend to spend time with my family. It’s officially the last day of summer for us. We spent most of the weekend socializing with extended family and packing up camp until next year. The weather left a lot to be desired. I think it topped out at a whopping 74 degrees with wind gust up to 35 miles per hour. My lips are so chapped from that short amount of time that it’s a good thing I’ve never gotten lost out in the elements. I think I’d probably shrivel up and die.

During all the excitement over the weekend Brian ended up having to help someone who was having problems pulling their boat out of the water. He forgot that his camera was in the front pocket of his cargo shorts. Needless to say I guess I know what I’m getting him for his birthday AGAIN this year. Not sure when the next time will be when I actually get to post photos. Looks like all of you are just going to have to listen to me ramble instead.

My top 5

The other day a friend of mine wanted to know out of all the places we’ve been that we've been too which ones are our favorites. It took me awhile to come up with an answers and I’m still having second thoughts about what I said. I'm not so sure if their my favorite place or if it’s just my favorite place at the moment because the memories are so fresh in my mind.

Salzburg, Austria : Salzburg is world famous for its baroque still architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centres. The buildings date back to the early 1400. Although most of Europe is decorated with beautiful architect not all of them boast a fortress over looking it. At this moment Salzburg is my number one choice for places to visit.

Dublin, Ireland : Dublin was a close first place and had I visited them both on the same trip it might actually have come in first. Voted the friendliest city in all of Europe it lives up to its name. With a great night life and plenty of churches to go around Dublin might have been voted number one if it hadn’t been so freaking cold while we were there.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands: When most people think of Amsterdam they think of legal prostitution and drugs. At least that’s what I thought and well its all true but what they don’t mention is that Amsterdam has more canals then Venice. Great architecture and plenty of café’s to enjoy while watching the boats float by.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany : A medieval city with cobblestone streets and a surrounding wall. Its very own torture museum and an entire store dedicated to Christmas. What more could a girl ask for?

Playa del Carmen, Mexico : This use to be Mexico’s best kept secret and is by far my favorite place to visit while south of the boarder. White sand beaches and torques blue water lapping at the shores of a quiet little fishing village. Or at least that’s what it use to be when I first started visiting Playa Del Carmen 7 years ago. Now there‘s a Walmart and Sams Club and TimeShare people. Gotta love tourism at its finest. It still makes my list of favorite places to visit because of the price. Its hard to beat an $800 dollar trip that includes airfare, hotel, and all you can eat/drink.

Costa Rica

Brian and I are headed to Costa Rica with my parents in December. We are using the timeshare they purchased in Mexico and could use some help on things to do and see. If anyone has been there please drop me a line. Thanks!

Pleasanton Car Show

Pleasanton’s name says it all with its cute streets, lively downtown, and great weather. Every couple of years Brian and I try and catch the Good Guys Car Show that takes place in late August.

Earlier in the year I had mentioned maybe doing a joint venture with our friends Carly and Derek but of course neither of our men can comprehend planning that far in advance. So we put that plan on the back burner and didn’t actually decide to go until I found out Brian would already be down that way for training. I did a quick check on expedia and found a 3.5 star hotel for only 34 dollars per night. Yeah that’s right $34 dollars! Crazy uh! Of course there is always a reason when you find stuff super cheap on the internet. The hotel service sucks! Having said that I’ll have to share with you our crazy

First off we paid an extra $5.00 per night to be upgraded to a King size which didn't happen. We later found out that they don't have any king size beds and we paid for an up grade on expedia for nothing. Lame!
Our friends showed up later that night only to find the room they had been given was occupied by an old man who didn't like being awakened by us drunks. The next room they we're given the door would not open with the electronic keys. We were given free breakfast which was very nice of them but completely uneatable. The next day our room keys once again did not work. I'm usually not a picky person but when it’s 100 degrees outside and you have to walk down a very dark, long, and dirty hallway that looks like something that came out of an exorcist movie its enough to creep anyone out.

Besides stupid hotel drama our weekend was pretty tame and involved a lot of eating. I swear I came back 5 pounds heavier. Stupid Hooters, Stupid fried pickles!
